My other favorite cycling spot is the Forest Reserve Institute Malaysia or FRIM. Its located in Kepong and is one of the few green lungs in the city. A haven for joggers and cyclists this place is the best five star cycling destination in KL.
Rapid development at the expense of the environment has left city dwellers with few green public spaces for exercise and recreation. Sad to see this in the city I grew up in, how the rain forests have now been replaced by the concrete jungle. Public parks have now become a luxury.

RRI has got it all, great trails with a combination of both uphill climbs and flowing downhills. Its a nice ride for beginners and has technical challenging trails for the advanced. All in all a wonderful place to ride. We used to compete with the joggers on a particular trail but that has since been closed to cyclists.
One of the trails leads you to an exit at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Unfortunately the area bordering FRI as been opened up for housing and farming and it’s slowly eating up the pristine green lung that was replanted on a former tin mine.
The number of people who show up on the weekend is reflection of why KL needs more parks and green space rather than more malls or buildings. Pity that greed has gotten the best of some who are willing to parcel out every plot of land for a price.
Unfortunately once all this is destroyed, it’s gone forever. All that will be left with is a barren landscape covered with concrete lifeless structures.
