Is death the end?
We spend our lives trying hard to avoid the one thing that will eventually overtake all of us.
How we see death will determine how we use the present moment.
Is there meaning in suffering?
The pain that surrounds human existence does not discriminate
What have I done to deserve this?
Why me?
What’s the point of it all?
Is it my sin?
Is this divine retribution to teach me a lesson?
It hurts so much more when we seek to find meaning in our suffering.
Why is one so unlucky while the other spared a similar fate?
Are we being punished for our sins?
I must have done something to deserve this
But the randomness of it all seems to suggest that it could happen to anyone of us
So we sit silently and thank God for granting us another day
Another day to breathe, live, taste, smell, see, experience the simple pleasures of life
You remind me…
For only a penny you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father’s consent.
As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows!
Matthew 10:29-31 GNT
Nothing happens without your consent
Yet we cannot fully comprehend the meaning of the pain that we experience this side of eternity
Father give us faith to trust you and the grace to accept the pain of unjust suffering
To rise above it so that it does not disfigure our humanity but helps us become more compassionate
Not to judge or condemn those who suffer as guilty because it could happen to anyone of us. It could happen to me.
Note:
Death, suffering and human pain is not the end
It’s not God’s final judgement on humanity
He created us as eternal beings with souls who would live forever so pain, suffering and even death will never be the end…
You are an unceasing spiritual being with an eternal destiny in God’s great universe – Dallas Willard
