Hard to say goodbye

Doha, Qatar has been our home for almost two years and it’s now time to say goodbye. We head back to Kuala Lumpur this weekend after completing a very interesting stay in a country and region unlike any other we have experienced. This will be our fourth move in the last seven years but it does not get any easier to say goodbye to the people we have come to know and love.

I have completed my contract with Qatar Shell and now head back to Kuala Lumpur to start work with Shell Malaysia. Qatar is a very diverse country with people from every nation under the sun. So we have had the opportunity and privilege to live and work with people from across the world.

I could not have imagined that I would one day live and work in the Middle East but we thank God for opening up this opportunity for us. We have had the opportunity to travel and experience some diverse and different places outside our own habitat of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the last seven years that I have been with Shell.

The school experience for the both boys has been fantastic and they have had excellent teachers and made friends from across the globe. The exposure for Joshua, 11 and Jonathan, 9 is awesome. The first time I left the security of home was when I was 24. It was also my first time on a plane. Angie has been able to continue her passion for art and craft and has been blessed through her sewing group and many others new friends.

The experience to be able to live and work in a different culture and environment than the one you are used to allows you to reevaluate what you think is important and challenges your values. I have definitely learnt a lot about this diverse and unique region and most of all about myself and what I value.

We have all come to love and appreciate the many wonderful people around us who have made our journey in the desert a very memorable one. So it is with sadness in our hearts that we leave Doha and hope that we will continue to stay in touch and perhaps even meet one day.

Hi and blessed belated Christmas,
Some of the precious moments that I treasure most during my time in Qatar was when I was with you guys. I really miss you guys.

They say, a change is as good as a rest. May your transition be field with happiness and the joy of the Lord, and may God bless you, and raise you, guide you, open doors for you, and crown you in 2014.
