Wait for God to Act

A prayer I wrote down in October 2013 as we were preparing for our move to Canberra from Doha and were faced with a number of challenges which were out of our hands. This was written when we were on holiday in Cape Town, a wonderful time of refreshing amidst the uncertainty.

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed.

(Psalms 37:7, 34 NLT)

Father help me be still in your presence and wait on you to act. Still my restless spirit within me and empower me to wait on you.

God you are good and your mercy and grace surround me. Even in my weakness, tossed and turned in my own fear and anxiety, you are there with me. You save me from drowning by lifting me out of the pit.

You have always been at my side, going ahead of me. Lifting me through the turbulent times in my life. I have not forgotten you or your goodness. You have never failed to act or abandoned me, Father.

Help me to know, feel and experience your love, Father each day. Help me experience it  anew every morning as I awake. And as I lay down to sleep, renew my spirit and strengthen my soul so that I don’t forget.

My desire is to experience your love, the love of a father for his son. The all forgiving love and grace that accepts me for what I am and yet sees something in me that is lovely.

I pray you will transform me that I may in some small way extend this love to my wife and children. To put away my false expectations, impatience and anger and to love. To forgive, accept and love them as they are, as you created them. To see in them what you see. To love them with a father’s love.

Thank you for allowing us this time to be away as a family. Help us soak You up in the natural beauty so abundant here. To fill ourselves with the sight, sound and smell of the mighty waves crashing against the breakers and the seagulls flying above without a care or concern in the world.

God thank you for reminding me for your love. Help me to wait on you to act. You brought us to Qatar and I know you will take us home.

I commit our future into your hands. Now help me lay my fear, anxiety and doubt at your feet and move forward in faith and confidence that your love is with us and goes ahead of us, as always.

In Jesus, Amen!
