Leaving home to find home

You have to leave the comfort and security of home in order to find home. We have to come out of our own selfish and self-centred worldview to see how big, infinite and diverse yet so much alike we all are.

Travel offers us the unique opportunity to leave home in order to find home. I have had the opportunity to travel and live in different parts of the world and it definitely has been an interesting journey so far.

I grew up and spent a major part of my life in Kuala Lumpur and have had the privilege of living and studying in Tauranga, NZ. And then living with my wife and two boys in Bintulu, Doha and Canberra.

Each place has its own unique values, culture and social norms. Even the simple act of driving a car in each of these locations would require you to have a different set of skills.

Each destination offered me the chance to see through a different set of eyes. It definitely challenged me to leave some of my preconceived ideas behind and gave me the opportunity to come out of my own little world to see a world that is bigger than the limited confines of my finite human mind and to become more self-aware of the lens through which I view the world.

You have to leave the comfort and security of home in order to find home. We have to come out of our own selfish and self-centred worldview to see how big, infinite and diverse yet so much alike we all are.

The lens of nationality, race, religion, sex, education, money, power, etc. that we often view the world with offers only a myopic view of reality.
